9th Cultural Encounters Conference
Texts in Motion: Translation, Adaptation, and Appropriation of Literature and History in the Performing Arts

Keynote speaker: Dr. Michael Solomon, University of Pennsylvania
The Association of Spanish and Portuguese Graduate Students of Tulane University invites submissions for its 9th Cultural Encounters Conference. The organizing committee will consider papers and panels that reflect on and explore the processes of translating, adapting and appropriating literary texts and historical events in the development of the performing arts (theater, film, ballet, contemporary dance, opera, etc.) in all areas and periods of Iberian, Latin American and Latino culture, society, language, literature, history and criticism.
To present a paper, please submit a 250-word abstract in Spanish, Portuguese, or English including name of participant, title, affiliation, address, telephone number, and e-mail address. Proposals for panels of 3 or 4 presenters should include the title of each presentation and the above information for each participant.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS: September 5, 2007.
Reading time of papers will be limited to 20 minutes. Registration fees are $20 for graduate students and $30 for professors. The committee will respond by September 15, 2007. Abstracts must be submitted electronically to:
